goals and approach

The Research Operations department includes the Brain Science Project Management team, comprised of project managers and project coordinators who support the Allen Institute for Brain Science by managing intricate workflows, tracking project progress, and facilitating execution of complex, multifaceted projects across the Brain Science Portfolio of Genomics, Connectomics, Proteomics, Tools, and Data and Technology. Project Management Team goals include successfully executing research deliverables, developing competitive funding proposals in partnership with scientific staff, and establishing and managing partnerships with academic organizations, research institutions, industry stakeholders, and government agencies. The team is integral to facilitating cross-functional collaborations across the Scientific Programs within the Allen Institute. Overall, these efforts are geared towards achieving shared scientific outcomes, advancing the Allen Institute’s mission of promoting neuroscience research and innovation, and playing a central role in disseminating data, knowledge, and tools to the broader scientific community.

To achieve these goals, the team leverages project management best practices and advanced software tools to oversee project timelines, milestones, and deliverables. Team members support cross-functional collaborations across scientific projects, facilitating the development of experimental tools as well as the creation of comprehensive datasets and web tools to visualize and explore them. Their responsibilities also extend to fiscal management, ensuring effective resource use through budgeting and monitoring financial expenditures. Additionally, the team maintains high compliance and quality assurance standards and oversees the standard operating procedures database and dissemination of these protocols to the community. The team also consolidates and designs dashboards to monitor data production across modalities and tracks progress towards milestones and executes other essential operational tasks to support research advancement.
