Thank you for joining us at the August 12 & 13 kickoff workshop at the Allen Institute. We loved meeting you all in-person and hearing your wonderful ideas for lessons!

Our next virtual check-in will be on

Wednesday, October 23 from 4:00pm – 5:30pm

. Ideally, we would love for you to

bring a completed draft of your lesson to this check-in

so you can get feedback from the group and prepare to pilot your lesson.

Ahead of our next check-in meeting, please complete the following:

    • Travel reimbursement: Please upload your Visitor Expense Report as well as all itemized receipts to this Dropbox folderby August 29
    • Draft of lesson: Upload your completed draft of your lesson to our collaborative SharePoint folder by our October 23 check-in meeting
    • Request materials: If you are ready, fill out the materials request form to inform of us of what items you would like to order with your $200 materials stipend
    • Share your photos:If you took any photos during your time at the workshop that you would be comfortable sharing, upload them to the “photos” folder in our SharePoint
    • Browse the available resources: check out the “resources” folder to find a list of suggested books, links to potentially helpful lesson materials (foam brain model, digital microscopes, etc.), and other suggested reading & references

Expenses & Travel Support

Attendees seeking

travel support

will receive a maximum of $1,000 dollars for reimbursement of qualifying travel expenses. In order to receive this reimbursement, you must follow the steps below and upload the required forms by

11:00pm PST on Thursday, August 29

. Any forms received after this deadline will not be processed for reimbursement.

Please note that after the August 29 deadline, it may take up to several weeks for you to receive your reimbursement.Step 1:

Keep a record of all itemized receipts of travel-related expenses you plan on submitting for reimbursement

Lesson Theme

We are extremely excited to have you join our inaugural cohort of Allen Institute Teacher Fellows!

This program supports you, as a high school STEM educator, to co-create a new lesson for your students using scientific resources from the Allen Institute. You will join a cohort of peer educators and will spend the year-long fellowship working together with Allen Institute scientists and Education & Engagement staff to

co-create, pilot, and publish a unique neuroscience lesson for your class

. You will work in groups to write your lessons and will be paired with a scientific mentor from the Allen Institute to help guide the development of the lessons.

The theme of the lessons Fellows will create this year is

Exploring the Mouse Brain

. Each Fellow will be given a set of microscope slides that have mouse brain tissue mounted on them.For more information about the fellowship, please read through our FAQ document.

The program begins with the

hosted at the Allen Institute in Seattle, WA. The kick-off meeting is intended to give you a chance to make solid progress on your lessons so that you are equipped to complete, pilot, and revise your lesson throughout the school year.

The

in-person workshop

is followed by

four virtual check-in meetings throughout the year

, which will allow

you to share your progress and get the help you need

in order to

complete your lessons!

Bring your students to join us at the Allen Institute for a Field trip!

    • Apply today to bring your class or club of 12-32 students to join us at the Allen Institute for a field trip.
    • Unable to bring your class for a field trip but interested in engaging in a virtual experience or classroom visit? Email education@alleninstitstg.wpengine.com and we will try our best to accommodate these requests when we can.
