Protheroe comes to the Allen Institute from the Royal College of Art, the QS ranked world number one University of Art and Design training, where she served as Director of Development and Alumni Relations, and Executive Director of RCAUSA. Protheroe has 20-years of experience of working with UK and international organizations and philanthropists in the research, education, cultural and nonprofit sectors. At the Royal College, Protheroe developed and led the GenerationRCA Campaign with RCA Chancellor Sir Jony Ive, Vice Chancellor Dr Paul Thompson and the RCA Alumni Council including Sir James Dyson, Asif Kapadia, Thomas Heatherwick, Tracey Emi, David Adjaye and Sir Ridley Scott.

“The opportunity to further a successful and impactful dedication to open and team science to accelerate research and innovation worldwide, and transform society is compelling,” said Protheroe. “In this new role I hope to build on this legacy, by fostering long-term and innovative collaborations with partners, institutions and philanthropists globally. Together, we’ll work to convene a community of individuals, ideas and conversations that will help the Allen Institute write a new chapter about how science is done and solve some of the big problems that society faces.”

Arden Yang brings two decades of industry experience to the Allen Institute. He previously held roles at Adaptive Biotechnologies, AstraZeneca and Genentech. In his role as Vice President, Innovation, Yang will focus on partnering with scientific leaders to identify key areas for innovative growth and drive strategies that support this growth.

“There is an urgency in the Allen Institute’s commitment to tackling some of the hardest problems in bioscience, many of which have a direct impact on people’s health,” said Yang. “You don’t find that everywhere. I’m excited to join the team and seek out new opportunities to deepen the impact of our research.”

Yang officially joined the Institute December 12. Protheroe will join in March 2023.
