Today, the Allen Institute announced Sarah Norris Hall as its next Chief Financial Officer. Norris Hall brings with her more than 16 years of experience in financial leadership, strategic planning, and operational excellence from the University of Washington, where she held several key roles including Director of Planning and State Operations; Vice Provost of Planning and Budgeting; and most recently, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. In her new role at the Allen Institute, she will oversee all financial operations, including financial planning, budgeting, accounting, investment strategies, and long-range planning.

“I’m incredibly excited to welcome Sarah to our team,” said Rui Costa, D.V.M., Ph.D., President and CEO of the Allen Institute. “She is a passionate and dedicated leader with a proven record of financial stewardship and organizational impact. Her thoughtful leadership and dedication to excellence will help drive groundbreaking science and advance our mission.”

At the University of Washington, Norris Hall was a pivotal figure in guiding the institution’s financial strategy. Her tenure focused on strategic finance leadership, robust planning, government relations, and the meticulous allocation of university resources. Notably, she led implementation and stabilization of financial systems and processes, streamlining operations and improving reporting—work that’s driving the advancement of scientific research.

“I’m deeply honored to join the Allen Institute — an organization whose mission to understand life and advance health is both vital and inspiring,” said Norris Hall. “The chance to contribute to foundational science with the potential to transform lives is a rare and meaningful opportunity. I look forward to partnering with the Institute’s exceptional researchers and dedicated staff to ensure its financial strength continues to support bold, breakthrough science.”

Norris Hall has a master’s degree in higher education administration from Teachers College, Columbia University. She is the Board Treasurer and Finance Committee Chair at KUOW, and a volunteer instructor for Seattle Parks and Recreation.

Norris Hall will officially join the Allen Institute on September 8, 2025.
