Allen Institute founder Paul G. Allen died on Monday afternoon, October 15, 2018, from complications of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in Seattle. He was 65 years old.

We remember our founder and his dedicated work to accelerate bioscience. Mr. Allen’s vision for the Allen Institute and his unique perspective on tackling tough problems in science can be best appreciated through hearing his own words. Below, some of our favorite moments of our founder sharing his aspirations about the Allen Institute.

Allen Institute’s new headquarters celebration

Mr. Allen shares his views on the beginning of the Allen Institute in 2015, celebrating the opening of the Institute’s new dedicated facility in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood.

“This facility says a lot about how we’re tackling some of the biggest challenges in science. We’re tackling them together as a team.” — Paul G. Allen

The Paul G. Allen Frontiers Group launched

Mr. Allen announces the launch of The Paul G. Allen Frontiers Group, a new division of the Allen Institute dedicated to exploring and funding new landscapes in bioscience.

“In labs around the world, some of the world’s brightest bioscientists are pioneering their new ambitious theories at the very frontiers of knowledge. I want to accelerate their tempo of discovery.” — Paul G. Allen

Fireside chat with Paul G. Allen and Gary Marcus

To celebrate the Allen Institute’s 10th anniversary in 2013, Mr. Allen sat down with NYU cognitive scientist Gary Marcus to discuss his vision for accelerating neuroscience.

Announcing new initiatives for the Allen Institute for Brain Science

Mr. Allen speaking at a 2012 press conference announcing his commitment of $300M to expand the Allen Institute for Brain Science and launch new initiatives dedicated to understanding how the brain works.
