lesson

About this lesson:

This lesson introduces basic knowledge of functions, cell types, and disorders of the human immune system, describes a common technique used to study the immune system through a model-building activity, and asks students to conceive an experiment that studies the human immune system. It also introduces some open research questions in the world of immunology.

The full lesson plan includes learning objectives, Next Generation Science Standards and Advanced Placement alignments, a teacher guide, suggested timing, and lesson materials.

Flow cytometer activity example:

Seesaw toy made with books, wooden stick, and egg carton on dark fabric

Learning Resources:

Five cool things your immune system can do

Immunologists share some of the far-out cellular feats happening in your body on a regular basis
