Lesson Overview

This is the first of four lessons in the unit: Exploring Mitosis with the Allen Institute.

This lesson takes the form of an interactive lecture with your instructor.

If you encounter vocabulary that is unfamiliar during this lesson, feel free to reference the mitosis glossary.

Lesson 1 Homework

To prepare for Lesson 2, please complete the Lesson 1 homework assignment and watch these three short videos that introduce you to the Allen Institute for Cell Science, open science, and the Deep Cell Zoom tool you will be using.

‍

The first video provides an introduction to open science at the Allen Institute.

The second video provides an introduction to the Allen Institute for Cell Science and a broad overview of how it studies human induced pluripotent stem cells, which you will learn about in detail in lesson 2.

The third video provides an introduction to the Allen Institute for Cell Science’s Deep Cell Zoom tool, which you will use in lesson 2 to create your own cell catalog.

This curriculum unit was supported by the National Science Foundation under Award Number 2236366. The content is solely the responsibility of the authors and does not necessarily represent the official views of the National Science Foundation.
