Developing Open Neuroscience Teaching Tools Workshop

The Education & Engagement team is excited to welcome you for the Developing Open Neuroscience Teaching Tools Workshop on July 21-24, 2025. In this workshop we'll support educators in developing inquiry-based educational activities (ranging in scale from short single-class activities to CURE courses) that integrate Allen Institute's open science data into their undergraduate neuroscience courses. Attendees will learn about publicly available datasets that require no, low/medium, or high coding experience from the Allen Institute. Then attendees will work together in groups and use a structured backwards design process to design activities that meet their shared learning objectives. During the w orkshop, attendees will work together to design both formative and summative assessments for students, an assessment plan for measuring the success of the activity, and plans for sharing the activity and outcomes. 2. Watch this video on Open Science from UNESCO
  3. Add a slide (digital business card) to the “Getting to Know You” slide deck
  4. Take a look through “The Table” (our table of all neuroscience datasets with all metadata + alignment with Vision & Change, etc.)
  5. Take a look through the resources in the participant packet.

Getting to Seattle

  • The Seattle-Tacoma International airport is the closest airport to the Institute, about a 30-minute drive from the Allen Institute.
  • There are many options for getting from SeaTac Airport to downtown Seattle and the Institute, including Link Light Rail, taxis, Uber/Lyft and other app-based ride shares, or Shuttle Express.
