about this event

This interactive event aims to bring together educators interested in using open science data sets, open science tools, and other authentic research materials in their work with undergraduates. The program will consist of keynote speakers and short talks paired with topical discussion groups.

This event is intended for educators working with undergraduate students, and will focus on sharing knowledge and learning from each other within the broad field of biology. Informal networking will be encouraged through shared meals and breaks.

Open science and authentic research exposure has the potential for improving student learning outcomes and influencing their career paths. Incorporating open science tools and datasets in classroom activities can also democratize science by improving access to current science research for any enrolled students. However, effective implementation of such practices can be difficult for many instructors.

This workshop aims to foster a faculty support network for ideas and feedback on how to design curricula that take advantage of open science tools & resources. The invited speakers represent educators and organizations that are invested in undergraduate curricular innovation based in open science and authentic research. Workshop space is limited. To apply, please complete this form by October 20.The event will be held at the Cira Center of the University of Pennsylvania (adjacent to 30th Street Station), on Friday, December 5 - the day before CellBio2025, the ASCB/EMBO Annual Meeting. CellBio conference attendance is not required to participate in the workshop. There is no cost to participants. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

This workshop is supported in part by the National Science Foundation under Award Number 2236366. The content is solely the responsibility of the authors and does not necessarily represent the official views of the National Science Foundation.
